OK, Squishy is my sister and she's been making these for as long as I can remember so maybe I'm a bit biased because they remind me of my teenage years. These are simple and yummy, and oh so cute! |

Squish introduced me to this recipe when I was 14 years old, back in high school. I, too, have been making it ever since. I use twice as much soy sauce and peanut butter though, which increases the taste's likeness to meat (or so I've been told). It's a great group/family meal recipe, and the leftover tofu balls make for great sandwiches if you run out of pasta. Oh, and the tofu "meatballs" they sell in the frozen section at your favorite health food store don't even come CLOSE to the flavor, freshness and quality in this recipe. So, do yourself a favor and take the time to make these delicious tofu balls. :) |

tried these tonight with the doubled soy sauce and peanut butter. TOO salty with so much soy sauce, but otherwise yummy. i had a little trouble getting these bad boys to firm up/stay together, so any suggestions would be nice, cause i will certainly be trying this again. perhaps i made them too big? |

Hi Chiveg. I hopped on here so I can respond. Glad you tried the tofu balls. As you gathered I have been making them for a very long time. Here are a few tips to make them stay together. No need to add extra pb/soy (sometimes I add other spices just for taste) but I would make the balls only 1" round. Also, you may want to refrigerate the mixture for a 1/2 hour after combining the ingredients. And lastly you can chop the onions a bit smaller so that they don't stick out of the balls and threaten to make the whole thing fall apart. I hope you will try the recipe again, in fact, I think I have to make them soon after all this talk. Let me know how it works out if you try it again and thanks for the review. |

i made these last nite....i was extremely excited to try them since i haven't had spaghetti & meatballs in years. they WERE super-yummy but i forgot to roll them in the flour and i think that may be why they stuck to the pan!!!??? anyways i guess i will have to make them again and this time i will try to follow the directions !

Yum-yum. I just made a quarter batch of these to try them out. Didn't mean to polish the whole lot off as soon as they were made.
Might add that they go really with a sweet-chilli dipping sauce for a thai-style appetiser!
Thanks,

Question: how are you supposed to break up the tofu before you mix everything together and make it into balls? Do you just chop it up as tiny as possible or what?
You crumble it with your hands - Isa |

I must admit I was sceptical looking at the ingredients list but DANG your balls rocked! I used light peanut butter, light mori-nu silken tofu, and less oil than it warranted so I had to squish them flat into little patties to cook better. Still... mmmmmm. |
