Merci Beaucookie!
When we do favors we do them out of the kindness of our heart and shouldn’t really expect much in return, but wouldn’t a thank you be so much more heartfelt if you could eat it? Cookies show that you really mean it. Mean it enough to spend a half hour in the kitchen whipping up a batch.

I’ve been trying to make it a point to thank people more often, which means baking more often. This week I had two people to thank but I didn’t really have anything fancy to pack the cookies in. Yes, a plastic baggy full of cookies is a wonderful gift, but I wanted something a little more impressive. Turns out that empty tea boxes are the perfect vehicle for cookies and they’re the kind of thing everyone has around the house. And if they’re not empty, pull out a couple of bags and voila!
To make them even cuter, and also to provide a little padding, line the bottom with a few extra tea packets that you think will go well with the cookies. Here I’ve chosen some cranberry tea to go with cranberry white chocolate cookies. You can’t see them because they’re hidden but I promise they are there! You can use the inside of the box as your card. This one was for the guy at the bike shop that put my seat on after it had been stolen. He also put on my lights, which is very cool because usually trying to figure out those light straps ends with me and a roll of duct tape and a lot of cursing. But the reason I really wanted to thank him was that if you’ve ever been an idiot in a bike shop, you’ll notice that the employees pretty much treat you like an idiot in a bike shop. But this guy was really nice about it, so he gets cookies!

Some glittery kitty cat stickers would have been cute, too.
On this, the first evening of VeganMoFo, how about figuring out who you could thank? Even if it’s for some silly reason. Hint: No one has ever baked me cookies!

How sweet! That’s the kind of “thank you” that would make anyone extra happy!
Also: I love the ‘franglais’ play on words of your post title

I really love this idea, especially with the tea bags stuffed in between.
October 1st, 2009 at 4:30 am
I’d be too scared to make you cookies!
October 1st, 2009 at 4:56 am
What a great idea!
I suspect no one bakes you cookies because they’re afraid you’d be disappointed because they’d almost certainly come out better if you did it yourself. That said, next time you’re in NYC, if you come to a PPK meetup, I’ll bake you cookies (I have a lot to thank you - and Terry - for; if not for your books and The PPK, I probably wouldn’t be vegan).

That is adorable. I’ve been thanking people with jam, but when that runs out, cookies in tea boxes it is! I’ll bet Patrick was tickled. Did he blush?

I hate the idiot in a bike shop feeling, especially since the guys at my bike shop are always speaking in spanish behind my back and I don’t know what they’re saying! ‘
But I love this cookie in a tea box idea. I think that might have to be put to use! Thanks for sharing!
October 1st, 2009 at 11:47 am
That is a good idea! I think I’m going to use it sometime. I’m always trying to figure out how to pack baked goods when I want to give them away, and this is much cuter and more customizable than anything I came up with.

LOVES IT!!!!! not only is it reusing but it also recyclable! and, well, it means purchasing more tea for me

I love this idea! And, I can’t wait for the cookie cookbook to arrive in my mailbox. Talk about anticipation–Jeez. For the past several months, every time I make a cookie I can’t help but think that there’s a better cookie recipe cackling at me from inside the cockles of your new cookie book.

Thanks you guys! As for the recipe, it’s just the Choc Chip recipe, with about 1/3 cup cranberries and white choc instead of regular chocolate. I also added a generous pinch of allspice. And please so steal the idea! I bet it can be embellished to be even cooler.

Yes I agree, cookies speak a 1000 words, most of which are mumbled with cookie crumbs. So with my own baked cookies in my mouth, I say “Tank-Q Isa for the idea”.
October 1st, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Oooooh! That’s one super idea for cookie-toting/giving!!! Everything all in one box (remember those stupid tampax commercials from back in the day? “All in one box”).
October 1st, 2009 at 5:55 pm
i love this idea. enough to even comment, so that’s a lot for me! xo
October 1st, 2009 at 5:57 pm
I did that for a friend a while back! They’re such perfect boxes, it’s true… I made little lavender shortbread moons and wrote a message inside and left it outside her apartment door. Man, I should also probably think about making a gift again this month!
October 1st, 2009 at 6:45 pm
Love the tea box idea. Reuse and recycle right?
