Moby’s Pancakes
When I’m feeling like I have to be productive but I am way too lazy, I cruise recipe sites like epicurious or allrecipes. It makes me feel like I’m researching. Anyway, today I found Moby’s Vegan Blueberry Pancakes on epicurious. There’s no oil in the recipe so I have my misgivings, but I thought it was cute. Especially in the intro where they say, “Moby has been a practicing vegan for 20 years.” So should we call ex-vegans “non-practicing vegans” instead?
They look good, right?

I haven’t watched yet, but you can also see him make breakfast here. And that’s followed by a vegan philosophy and lifestyle video. I probably should have watched it before blogging, but whatever.

Practice makes perfect.. or something like that. Great research, Isa!

Moby has been a practicing vegan for 20 years… interesting terminology. I wonder how long I’ll have to practice before I can consider myself a real vegan?
The pancakes do look yummy. You’ll have to post when you’ve tried the recipe. My hubby’s been on a vegan waffle kick lately.

Those sound like a fabulous alternative to my oil laden carb cakes. I always feel a bit guilty eating super sugary pancakes as the first meal of my day. This would be like, an actual (+ tasty) balanced meal! Yay Moby!

Just fyi: It wasn’t Moby who phrased it that way, it was the author of the article.

They look really yummy & the photo is so perdy!
In many ways I feel like I’m “practicing” veganism…because I know I am far from being perfect at anything…I also like the phrase “recovering & repenting carnivore”.

I love Moby - thanks for linking this!

Thanks for sharing Isa! That video of Moby was great too.
The little brown things were Lightlife’s Gimme Lean Soysage chunks! Yay. I loved how he didn’t measure anything in the video plus his comment on 20 years being a vegan so he doesn’t know how to be anything else. At almost 5 years I feel that way too so its awesome to know that others do too!

I saw that, too, and was so glad something vegan got to the mainstream cooking sites. I think they should have just titled it “Moby’s pancakes.”

pet peeve of mine so i will chime in
“practicing” used in this context is completely appropriate as defined by merriam-webster:
actively engaged in a specified career or way of life

Hi Isa! The pancakes look awesome … YUM!

quiet girl,
It’s appropriate, but it’s still redundant. Again, I just thought it was funny as you can’t really be a non-practicing vegan.

i like moby.

Wait… I am confused has moby stopped being vegan?
March 22nd, 2008 at 12:17 am
Moby’s kitchen is depressing. We have the same kind of miso.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
They look like chocolate chip cookies! I HEART MOBY!

Hey Quiet Girl,
I know what you mean about pet peeves. M-Webster says irregardless is perfectly acceptable since the early 1900s. It means - regardless.
Grrr.

Hi again!
Just wanted to pass on this information …
Boston Magazine recently published an article all about us this month - here is the link:
Oh So Soy!
If you have a few minutes to spare, could do us a huge favor and read the article and comment at the bottom of the page? We’re very excited about getting such great press, especially from a magazine of this caliber. If everyone drops by and leaves a quick comment, soon there will be no doubt in any publisher’s mind: YES, readers absolutely do want to know about vegan happenings and developments. Please don’t hesitate to repost the article on your blog and spread the world!
Thanks!

Scattering blueberries on top of the pancake after you pour the batter into the pan will also keep the batter from turning blue.

I’ma post anonymously cause I hate to call out such a vegan hero…
Moby’s pancake video has a shot of his beer drawer, featuring a handful of bottles of Stella… last I knew, Stella Artois wasn’t vegan.
Simple oversight? Conscious decision? You decide. (And tell Moby, cause I’m a pansy.)
