Life Without The PPK

The PPK forums that is. Tech support say it will be 24 to 48 hours until the boards are back up. I’m going to look at it like a vacation, and when they come back I’ll be all fresh and ready to ban everyone.

i’m worried about all the lost ppk’rs out there. i think some may not be able to cope. we need a backup plan.

2. IsaChandra Says:

I know! I am especially worried about the fate of VegMoFo. I am also desperate for food porn.

3. FootFace Says:

I… I just, um…

I don’t know what to do. Or where to go.

4. kittee Says:

i like co0oping isa’s blog. this is working well for me so far.

you?

xo
kittee

5. IsaChandra Says:

Safe space for ppk refugees.

6. kittee Says:

according to NPR, we’re not refugees, we’re displaced people.

7. kittee Says:

i also can’t believe no one else has figured out where we’re hiding. i already checked the herbivore forums, and it’s not happening.

xo
kittee

8. innochka Says:

*sigh*
night tea without ppk? - i felt lost. funny how fast habits form.

9. innochka Says:

Want to see my balls? (Veganomicon’s ’spaghetti and bean balls that is)
http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s39/NukAnuk/Food-Porn25-031.jpg

10. Pamela Says:

breaking my heart. seriously. I need to check my PM! uggggg. is it going to be shiny and sparkling clean when it comes back? What the holy hell am I going to DO all day tomorrow at work?

11. steph Says:

that really sucks. it had been acting weird for a little while though.

12. Lauren (SodaShop) Says:

So I get back from the Circa Survive show, and the boards aren’t working?!

WAY TO CELEBRATE WORLD VEGAN DAY, ISA.

It was planned, I just know it.

13. jess Says:

does this mean I have to watch more TV? fork yous!

14. xiola Says:

found you!

15. VeganAmy Says:

Yay. I thought somehow I got banned from the PPK or something….
Phew.
What am I meant to do with the last three days of my holiday now?

16. raddish Says:

Nooooooooo!

17. Emmie Says:

Noooo, this just isn’t right. I so desperately needed someone to come up with a vegan honey mustard dressing recipe for me, and now the forums are down? *sobs*

18. Celine Says:

I am drowning my sorrow in the big bottle of vodka I bought for the Penne Vodka recipe. I blame you, Isa.

19. cthutu Says:

now we can all become pen pals and forget about our internet lives. anybody down?

20. BlindTurtle Says:

I blame Josh.

21. StrawberryRock Says:

But I am having a really day and need to talk about it and I don’t have any real friends!!

And Emmie, I would take any old honey mustard dressing recipe on the internet and sub the honey with agave. Here’s one that I found randomly that got a good review: http://mixes.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/10/Honey_Mustard_Dressing8656.shtml

22. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

Okay, all you PPK nuts, what was the IRC info that was supposed to save us all in a terrible tragedy like this?

I already cried to Princess LaLaLemon that I figured that I’d been extra-banned for saying something questionable about tarragon. I need my PPK fix! And I need to R.S.V.P. for thanksgiving. Bah, humbug.

Bejeebus, Josh, can’t you stop DOS-ing the PPK server for just a minute?

23. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

Stawberryrock, how many days before you are outta there?

24. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

Oh, not being able to edit my late-night spelling is the worst part of this, easily.

25. Jerusha Says:

erm… what?? do you mean, I actually have to work today instead of PPKing??

26. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

Well, we still have the trivia thingy: http://my.funtrivia.com/private/main.cfm?tid=44946

27. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

I’ll be putting something PPK-forum-ish on the altar at the day of the dead fest tonight. Anyone else gonna show up in Garfield Park in SF? We can celebrate the memory of the good old days when the PPK was alive and well. Melisser? Bastah? Mel C?

28. StrawberryRock Says:

Sugarbeettree, I am leaving a week from today! So excited. But today the dad is coming home, for the whole weekend, maybe more, and I cannot cope because I hate him.

29. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

Do you have your airport transit all worked out? Have you planned your travel clothes & snacks? Did you start packing and buying stuff you want to take home? Get yourself busy and get away from him! The kid can go to the stores with you, if it isn’t being a bigger pain than dad.

30. H-Dog Says:

I wonder how many PPKers are doing extra drinking tonight to cope. I for one am pretty damn sauced.

31. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

I don’t drink, but I did consider it. The lack of ppk has driven me to think of blog names so that I can play at Veg(an)MoFo, though.

32. kennyboy Says:

CATFLAP!

This sucks.

33. kennyboy Says:

I can’t get the Cinderella song “Don’t Know What You’ve Got ‘Til It’s Gone” out of my head.

34. Bfunk Says:

Anyone have any idea of if it’s possible to make tamales without corn husks? I don’t have any, I’m not planning on leaving the house, but I do want to make tamales. Any advice or should I nix it?

35. Dawn Says:

I think by definition tamales would be in corn husks (or plaintain leaves…got any of those lying around?). Since they have to be steamed a tortilla probably wouldn’t work. What about rice paper wrappers? I haven’t cooked with those yet, but they do have a drier texture to start with…don’t know if it would get gooey steamed though. The tamales sound like lots of work to have not come together properly…I’d probably wait.

36. StrawberryRock Says:

I’ve heard of people making tamales just in foil. Not terribly authentic but probably still delish.

37. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

You could try parchment, but husks would be better by far.

38. pandacookie Says:

The eyes are the groin of the face.

39. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

Golly. Pandacookie’s been drinking with H-dog, I think.

40. pandacookie Says:

That should have been in the The Office thread.

41. Bfunk Says:

Thanks. I think it’s time for another Vaginamicon giveaway. Or whatever the book is called.

42. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

That’s VaJayJaynomicon.

43. StrawberryRock Says:

I am sooo booooored.

Play scrabble with me.

44. Katie Says:

This is hy e have livejournal as a back up, guys.

45. Katie Says:

Apparently my ‘w’ key went on vacation for that comment.

46. Bfunk Says:

Yeah, this kind of blows. What is the point of being JOBLESS if you can’t kill threads on the PPK every day? Dayum.

47. Mary Says:

Damn! I’m laying in bed, procrastinating on going to work this morning, and all I wanted was to get lost in the PPK.

Katie, I made your tempeh wingz last night and blogged about ‘em for VeganMoFo…they were so good.

48. bazu Says:

you guys are all still coming to dinner at Caravan of Dreams tonight, right? RIGHT? Please don’t leave me there with a glaring manager and a an empty reserved table for 26! Yeep. Withdrawal pains. Where’s. My. Methadone.

49. Frecklefoot Says:

I am so sad. I am in severe pain. I fell this morning at work, and I can’t even bitch about it to the PPK. I feel like I got hit by a truck!

I am definitely still coming to COD tonight, along with my husband, brother, and Bottleandball!

Please, PPK, come back soon. I hurt physically and mentally.

50. Catalina Says:

And here I was getting all frustrated with my computer for not opening.

51. kafkaesque Says:

I guess I will be pretty productive at work this morning.

52. corrie Says:

VeganMoFo lives! I noticed a couple blogs I read doing VeganMoFo, so I made a VeganMoFo exclusive RSS feed… http://www.google.com/reader/shared/user/10401450510537964801/label/VeganMoFo

53. redheadtheresa Says:

You couldn’t have done this when I was on vacation?

And yes, I drank in sorrow last night too.

54. Coppe Says:

Corrie, that’s a great idea (is doing VeganMoFo too).

I was thinking setting up a blog for it might be a good idea (with a list of every blog participating and a post with links to every VeganMoFo article posted that day). You could also use it to announce that week’s recipe or question.

55. Lunanimus Says:

I was extremely depressed last night when I couldn’t get on the forum….but I did get some homework done…..God shut the ppk down for a day so I could write my paper….sorry

56. vwam Says:

Isa broke the internets!

57. Tzippy Says:

Now that I’m actually watching the last hour of the Today show instead of just having it on while I check the PPK, I realize how much it sucks.

58. Jaymoh Says:

For the office thread:

Aside from having sex with men, the Finer Things club is the gayest thing about me.

59. Frecklefoot Says:

I can’t believe that this means I have to actually work. I really do want to sit here and complain about how much pain I’m in! I hope all of you NY’ers are still coming to Caravan of Dreams tonight!

60. Tzippy Says:

Someone should talk to me online. I need constant entertainment.
I’m BlwnNThWnd on both AIM and Yahoo.

61. torque Says:

thanks for the trivia link. at least i have a sliver of hope.

62. StrawberryRock Says:

I am afraid of initiating AIM conversations, but I’m mabeval! People should talk to me!

63. Tzippy Says:

I am normally afraid of initiating them as well, but for the sake of our sanity, I will (after I do the update it just asked me to do).

64. Tzippy Says:

Dear AIM, I don’t want Plaxo and Viewpoint on my computer. You suck.

65. JENNA Says:

I guess today’s a good day to clean my kitchen. Also my daughter is farting up a storm..that’s should amuse me for abit.

66. jd Says:

yawn.

67. connie aka glittergirl Says:

Is this the end of veganism as we know it? And how long till we break the blog??

68. Tzippy Says:

Wouldn’t it have been funny if your comment broke the blog, glittergirl?

69. Katie Says:

On the upside, since there’s no PPK to waste time on I was able to get the page for issue #2 up and running. Go buy it!

70. Tzippy Says:

Ooh, you finished it, Katie?

71. Katie Says:

Yes! You should see the Kinkos box, I had trouble carrying it out to the car.

72. Tzippy Says:

Ha! I just happen to have some singles and a stamp, so I will snail mail you.

73. IsaChandra Says:

I have 2 actual important things:
How many people are meeting at Caravan tonight? And it was 7 oclock, right?
And B) Did anyone write up a thing about VeganMoFo?

Oh, I just read that DEOTS #2 was done!

74. Katie Says:

Isa, I made an entry about VeganMoFo with the list of ideas we all came up with, it’s on my site a few entires down.

75. Frecklefoot Says:

Last I checked, there were at least 15 confirmed people for COD, although I suspect there will be more. I also suspect there will be less than 26, but we can hope! It is at 7:00, and then some of us who are in need of soft serve will be trekking to Atlas afterward

I have no idea what VeganMoFo is, but it sounds fun.

76. sugarbeetthree, fork yeah! Says:

I did a VegMoFo/VeganMoFo post, too. It will happen!

77. Amy Says:

WHEW. I thought my life was over.

78. jaymoh Says:

OOh! I love Caravan of Dreams!

79. Kelly Says:

this is really, really sad. i’ve actually been cleaning my house! thanks alot ppk!

80. Pamela Says:

i posted some tempeh and roasted potatoes on my blog if you guys wwant to see foodpronz

81. hasnotattoos Says:

I honestly thought I couldn’t get in because I was banned. I figured it was because of my general cantankerous nature and my last post in the thought police thread…. thought police came and locked me out of ppk.

82. jaymoh Says:

I thought I was banned because I hate journey.

83. Katie Says:

You were banned because you hate Journey. You just don’t know it yet because the board went boom.

84. jaymoh Says:

I knew it!

85. bryophyte Says:

Well, if you look, the user name “imoskowi@lhbb02.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net” its obviously Isa. I was wondering what Isa could have done to get us ALL banned, not just herself. Quite severe actions, I’m sure.

Also, is that REALLY her password? Well, was it anyway? I’m sure now that its all broadcast it will be changed. But that could be the site’s password for the webdesign techie people.

86. Frecklefoot Says:

Katie, exactly where do I order DEOTS #2 from? I can’t find the order page!

87. Frecklefoot Says:

Nevermind. I found it. I’m an idiot.

88. bottleandball Says:

Because I do everything backwards I did a VeganMoFo post yesterday and today I will explain what VeganMoFo is. I don’t think anyone outside of the PPK community reads my blog anyway.

At what point should someone call to alert Caravan that there might be a change in numbers? And, does Melisser have any local contact numbers? She’s here from out of town, right? What’s her internet situation?

89. MadHoney Says:

This sucks. How exactly am I going to kill 6+ hours today while I wait for work to show up?

I was even all ready with a happy post about how I’ve found a very vegan-friendly pediatrician for my baby!

90. bazu Says:

Are we sure that the CoD reservation needs to be changed? I’m still pretty optimistic that everyone who said they’d come will come.

I’ll be off-line for the next few hours. See you guys tonight. The reservation is under “Bazu”

xo

91. JENNA Says:

Then I would have posted how jealous i was that you found a very vegan-friendly pediatrician.

92. violet Says:

oh jeez. and i wanted some quick opinions about a gift for my best friend’s birthday. guess i’ll have to make the decision myself. and by ‘make a decsion’ i mean just buy him both things i was considering.

93. Gwenlet Says:

I do believe I’m still comiing to COD. I have some errands to run, though, so there’s some small chance I may be late. I also have a terrible sense of direction and have never been to COD, so maybe there’s a significant chance I’ll be late.

As long as I too am spamming Isa’s blog, does anyone know where in Manhattan I can find Vitasoy Holly Nog and Chocolate peppermint?

94. Joan Says:

I am definitely coming to COD with my husband. Not sure if that post was seen before the disaster that took out the board. I am Veg(an)MoFo-ing too. Hopefully we can carry on without the forums for now
gwgredux

95. IsaChandra Says:

Gwenlet - I haven’t been able to find it! I would call Lifethyme and see if they have it. And then call me and tell me.

96. nikitee Says:

Justincase the board isn’t up soon:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOAN (GWGREDUX)!

/ \

—– A toast to you!

97. Pranjal Says:

Ha! I knew I’d find some of you people here. On a positive note the PPK break has forced me to write 1000 words of an article that’s due after the weekend. Awesome.

p.s. happy birthday gwgredux!

98. Joan(gwgredux) Says:

Aw shucks guys thanks. It better be up by my birthday on Tuesday or our heads will explode. Or I’ll finish NaNoWriMo early…..I wish

99. rad.badger Says:

Before I forget:

I stained my enamel dutch oven with black beans! It’s all icky looking inside now. I mean, I know it’s clean and it probably won’t effect cooking at all, but it was so pretty before! Anyone know how to remove stains from enamel?

and happy b-day gwgredux!

100. Mary Says:

I’m actually working at work! Mm…credit union financial data….much better than the ppk?

101. catotem Says:

“Also, is that REALLY her password? Well, was it anyway? I’m sure now that its all broadcast it will be changed. But that could be the site’s password for the webdesign techie people.”

The password’s not in the error message; it’s just saying that the login failed and that the login attempt used a password. Probably a good idea to change the username, though, as the trolls now have half the credentials needed.

I don’t know what happened, but judging from the error mesage and amount of downtime, it sounds like the database server had a drive failure, and the webhost is probably in the middle of a very long restore. Ouch. Hopefully they didn’t lose the deebee.

102. StrawberryRock Says:

I am so bored that I started a vegan blog. Come back ppk!

103. smoothie Says:

i’m dead inside. ps. strawbs you CANNOT start a blog without leaving a link!

104. smoothie Says:

noooo! i just realised that i can’t tell you guys about my cool, new job! i have to wait till the forums are up and running., dang.

105. StrawberryRock Says:

Tell us here, Smoothie!

And the blog is just strawberryrock.wordpress.com. It is silly.

106. smoothie Says:

i got a job as a phone salesperson for a big newspaper, and i get paid for what i sell. and it pays GOOD. like, really really good. and i only have to work 27 hours a month, but can choose to work more if i like.
and i know three people who work there, that are really nice, so i’ll have someone to eat with and hang out with. it is awesome, and i only have to work from 5pm to 8pm per time i’m there. it is so so so cool. i think i am gonna be really good at it aswell.

oh yeah, and my mom just called to tell me that she’s thinking of volunteering with me, making vegan christmas food for homeless people. so freaking rad.
it’s been a great day, can you tell? how are you doing in germany? are they still as stupid as ever?

107. BlindTurtle Says:

I don’t cook/bake enough for a VeganMoFo. Mmm. Canned veggie dog with mustard and onions for breakfast.

Katie, as soon as I find three bucks, I’m gonna order issue #2. I’ve gone one dollar so far. I’ll check the other couch cushions later.

You know what this feels like? A fire escape plan. Okay, kids, if the PPK goes teets up, I want you to lower the rope ladder out the window, climb down in a slow, orderly fashion and if we get separated, we will all meet at the PPK blog.

108. BlindTurtle Says:

GOT one dollar, not gone.

109. Tzippy Says:

I got bored and am making whole wheat bread. A lot of it. It used almost 5 lbs. of flour, so this better turn out well!

110. BlindTurtle Says:

I just changed the band aid on my stab wound. It shouldn’t still be bleeding, should it?

111. Tzippy Says:

Your new blog is cute, strawberryrock! Wordpress’s layouts are so much more awesome than blogger’s, but I’m too lazy to change my blog.

112. StrawberryRock Says:

I actually really wanted a pink layout but the only pink one kind of sucked. Thanks, though! And Smoothie, the job sounds awesome! I am just really hoping I get the job with Planned Parenthood that I applied for. The dad is home this weekend so I am not leaving my room even though I have barely eaten today and I am starving. I think tomorrow they’re seeing a football game in Munich so I’ll have the house to myself a bit. I leave in a week! Woo!

113. Tzippy Says:

I was wondering…how are you applying for jobs if you’re in Germany and the jobs are in the U.S.? Email?

114. StrawberryRock Says:

Yup, email and Craig’s List. Some require me to come in person so obviously they have to wait.

115. Linanil Says:

Strawberry,
I like your blog post… If loving peanut butter is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

116. pandacookie Says:

I may not show tonight for Caravan of Dreams.
I have some shoulder and back and foot pain from moving yesterday and today and some sheetrock fell on my toe and I may fall asleep soon. We shall see.

117. Anonymous Says:

this suuuuuuucks. i have nothing to do at work without the ppk!

118. willwolf Says:

Ok, whew, I’m at least glad it wasn’t just me. I was getting worried. Thanks for posting on this. Hopefully, the wait won’t be too long.

119. IsaChandra Says:

Well, it’s probably going to be two more days. I had to get a dedicated server which was freaking expensive. Stop clicking the boob thread every 2 seconds, you perverts. I know, the boob thread is gone. But still.

So yeah, by Monday it should be back up and fast.

120. Tzippy Says:

The perils of being popular, huh Isa?

121. miharu Says:

What the hell am I supposed to do at work now?

Also, the boards being down drove H-Dog not only to drink, but to attempt actual social interaction with the illustrious me. You’re all totally jealous.

122. raspberrycomplaint Says:

I have no idea what to do all weekend now. Who am I going to talk about all the boring details of my life with???

123. xiola Says:

We got veganomicon and a new breastpump !

124. miharu Says:

Also, if anyone wants a free WordPress food blog set up on the veganpr0n server, give me a holla.

125. Carol Says:

WOW! Til Monday?

I may actually get some work done. WEIRD! But, the boards were having issues before the server smash anyway. Do we need to send $ for funeral services for the previous bit of server we were using?

126. anencephalic Says:

I had to sell my house to pay for the drug habit I picked up in order to deal with a life without the PPK.

127. Pamela Says:

So how does this work? Too many people get on and it gets all crazy? I know nothing about the actual functions of boards. i just go and talk to people and not worry of it. Mimosas tonight. Later.

128. B.A.D. Says:

Is this where we regroup and take refuge from the stupidity rampant on the rest of the internet?

129. uits Says:

For the record, I’m whining. How it can take daaaaays to restore a database machine is beyond me.

130. Pranjal Says:

Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos

131. Padraigin Says:

[Big Sigh…]

Now I know I definitely have a vegan food porn addiction. Will try some Mimosas and VCTOTW baking to combat the agony of withdrawl !

132. Carol/bryophyte Says:

Probably because its the weekend. They aren’t actually fixing the problem, the techies are watching ST:TNG and posting to their own forums that WORK right now.

I bet so!

GRRR. But TNG sounds good. But I think I’m just gonna go see Harry Potter at the $2 campus theater with free popcorn and a pop!

WOOT! And I think I’m gonna sneak some homeade popcorn in as well, because I really wanna make the stuff I mentioned in my blog.

133. rad.badger Says:

I need bread crumbs!!! I don’t have a food processor and all the bread crumbs I ever find have whey in it! Someone! Solve my problems! I need the ppk to tell me what to doooo!

134. fld_again Says:

here are the peoples. this is sort of like the ppk. well, not even a little bit. i don’t know if i can wait until monday!

135. fld_again Says:

forgot- i’m making chile cornmeal encrusted tofu, southwest corn pudding, and green pumpkin seed mole tonight! exciting. and it may even be done in a “normal” amount of time with no ppk to check on every 5 minutes. so this is how the others live.

136. fld_again Says:

it IS just like the boards, i’m replying to myself.

ok, i’m outta here.

137. Mary (pickled treats) Says:

Dammit…I’m watching Sahara on TNT right now…has anyone ever seen this movie?

Also eating a pot of quinoa and broccoli - right from the pot - and wearing sweat pants. I love Friday nights.

138. rad.badger Says:

I’ve seen Sahara. In theatres. It was pretty meh. Nothing special at all about it.

139. Lauren (SodaShop) Says:

My life is so pointless without the PPK I’ve signed up on 3 new boards in the past day to fill the void. But they just don’t compare. I really didn’t think I was so attached to the ‘Kult, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I even spent an hour DAYDREAMING today.

140. IsaChandra Says:

You know, I have no idea why it takes so long. It’s annoying. They need to set up a new server, but so what? Jerks. But I am too annoyed to just switch hosts because at least I am familiar with these particular jerks already.

141. IsaChandra Says:

Hey, we should all sign up on a new board for the weekend! Let’s pick one. There used to be Bea Arthur boards.

142. IsaChandra Says:

Ok, let’s join JZN’s message boards for the weekend. Even though he hates vegans!
http://www.worldofjasoncraft.com/forum/
He has lots of stupid avatars we can use!

143. bunniee Says:

what did I do on the internets before the PPK? I visit other boards but they just aren’t the same.

I am full of chickpea cutlets and mac daddy casserole.

144. Lauren (SodaShop) Says:

Wait, so, what is that forum all about? I don’t get it, but I’m looking to be enlightened.

145. Susie Tofu Monster Says:

OOOOOHHHH HERE is the PPK!
It was hiding!

You guyses! I want to be a vegan mofo! I Don’t have a blog though. I was all set to start one about a month ago, but then realised that “The Vegan Alchemist” looks kind of bad when the spaces and capital letters are taken out…. and I couldn’t think of anything else….. so I never started one after all.

146. M.W.O.A.I. Says:

GAH!!! No ppk and my wife just reminded me that Thanksgiving is fast approaching and I have NOTHING planned. Add to that the fact that I’m the only veg in the home. eep!

147. CommunistDaughter Says:

OK, this isn’t funny anymore. Come back PPK forum! I am nothing without you! Isa, if the board isn’t up by monday, i’m staging a mutinous vegan revolution-a mutiny! ‘you hear me?! [who’s with me?]

148. Katie Says:

Oh man, this sucks. Monday? What the hell am I supposed to do all weekend, fold and staple zines to ensure that people get them in a timely fashion? Fuck that noise.

149. BlindTurtle Says:

Once the boards are back up, let’s not all log on at once. We don’t want to frighten it away again.

150. smoothie Says:

i have seen waaaay too much tv already. just finished the 3th season of alias, so now i have no more episodes. and right now i’m watching a tv show about two women opening a spa. so wrong!

151. AutumnVegan Says:

I’ve been sitting around on the computer thinking of what to do on the internet after I’ve already done everything else I need to do.
Ahh!
So much backlogged food porn.

One plus: I blogged like crazy and feel a little accomplished.

152. pandacookie Says:

Pandacookie update:
I did make it to Caravan of Dreams last night. And Atlas.
Once the boards are back up I will have pictures to post of my studio.
I am eating a scone.

153. ak1drland Says:

I’m dying here. I’m up for another AIM chat support group at any point this weekend. Goddamn.

154. BlindTurtle Says:

pandacookie, I can’t wait to see your studio!!

I have to take my mom’s quinea pig to the vet in a couple of hours. Hopefully I’ll wrap that up in time to head out to the vegan holiday festival in Portland.

155. Jeff Says:

If you have AIM, join the chat called “theppkisdownsupportgroup”

156. Pamela Says:

“rad.badger Says:

I need bread crumbs!!! I don’t have a food processor and all the bread crumbs I ever find have whey in it! Someone! Solve my problems! I need the ppk to tell me what to doooo!”

RedBadger-

I would just toast leftover bread, put it in a ziploc and hit it with something heavy, like a rolling pin or the handle of a chef knife. I never buy bread crumbs, they are way too expensive!
If you want seasoned bread crumbs, just throw a little all purpose, garlic, onion, and/or Italian seasoning.

157. Linanil Says:

Hello all,

I went out to eat at a veggie chinese place. If you guys are in maryland, you gotta try it. They have all sorts of fake meat and wonderful veggie dishes. It was sooo good.

Ok that is all I have.

158. Carol/bryophyte Says:

Hey Jeff, how do we access a chat group we didn’t make? My AIM name is chroma2424

159. Carol/bryophyte Says:

Do we need to be invited? possibly. Anyway, cooking time! I’m gonna try the heavenly Chickpea Cutlets!

160. pandacookie Says:

Pandacookie update:
If this has all been a ruse to get me to write a Veganomicon review, I have.
I made soup.

161. pandacookie Says:

Also, bryophyte, i haven’t been able to join the aim thing either. Although there is a community love connection chat I am thinking of joining.

162. Joan (gwgredux) Says:

Miharu if you are serious about the blog thingy. I will take you up on the offer. How do I contact you on your blog? Just write a comment? I can give you contact info for me or whatever.

Damn I must be bored.

Caravan of Dreams was much fun 22 (I think) PPK’ers. More when the forums are up don’t want to upset those outside the NYC area who had no access.

163. Pamela Says:

I just got propaganda’d at work! Then i was told I was on my way to hell! This is a really funny weekend!

164. donthaveacow Says:

how’s the AIM support group going? i think it’s dead by now. i went to get cider and order mbm’s zine and came back and everyone had left.

for those of you that don’t know/have forgotten, there’s a ppk group on myspace (it’s pretty dead though). There are forums on there too.

http://groups.myspace.com/theppk

165. smoothie Says:

we’re gonna know if we get the huge villa ville kulla house in sweden next week! wish me luck!

166. Mary (pickled treats) Says:

Dammit…i want to go to the ppk chat room.

I’m making an eye patch out of cardboard from a six pack right now - and roasting a spaghetti squash.

167. pandacookie Says:

pandacookie update:
Thanks to the dead forums I have been on the thirtiessinglelovechat for an hour trying to talk to people who keep calling me asl. None had a recipe for vegan potato salad. A disappointment.

smoothie, good luck!

168. Carol/bryophyte Says:

So, the bread crumbs in Chickpea Cutlets. Its pretty integral I find. Too bad you can’t add them after the cutlets have been in the oven for 15 minutes already huh?

note to self, pay a tad bit more attention to the recipe!

169. Linanil Says:

For the chicken cutlets, I’m wondering if there is a substitute for bread crumbs? Like corn meal?

170. vwam Says:

Shannon’s gonna have her baby and we’re not gonna know!

171. uits Says:

Uits update:
I got cookies in the mail. I watched Stardust. I watched Shoot Em Up. I got groceries.

172. Carol/bryophyte Says:

But what about the cookie dough Uits? Are ya still cookin in on a spoon?

I hope so.

173. uits Says:

Am I ever! “watched Shoot Em Up” was code, yo.

174. vantine Says:

I’ve used a grater on stale bread when I’ve needed crumbs. My crazy mother and sister are in a race to see who can spend the most money before they die so I inherit most of my kitchen appliances.
How am I going to find out if Pamela read the crazy honey article in this month’s Veggie Times?

175. rad.badger Says:

vantine Says: How am I going to find out if Pamela read the crazy honey article in this month’s Veggie Times?

You say “Hey Pamela with the pretty dreads! Did you read the crazy honey article in Veggie Times?

I’m sure she’ll reply before the day is out.

176. debya Says:

I’m here to report that even with the PPK down, I’ve found plenty of other ways to procrastinate. Like, sleeping.

177. Carol/bryophyte Says:

Man I’m trying to watch Weeds online but all the free illegal streaming sites suck today. I had no problem yesterday.

I guess its back to listening to Prairie Home Companion.

178. raspberrycomplaint Says:

I’m so bored that vacuuming the house is starting to seem appealing. Oh god, someone save me….

179. Pamela Says:

RE: Honey Article

no I haven’t read it! My sub ran out and I paid for another one but they didn’t catch me up yet. Someone link it or tell me the main gist?

180. Pamela Says:

PS - Clorox bought out Burt’s Bees.

I can’t wait until Proctor and Gamble buy out Isa Moskowitz.

181. vantine Says:

my mom keeps renwewing my sub - she’s done this for about 15 years. It’s in a column called “One food - 5 ways.” They pick honey - not a subject that I find that interesting - I’m a bad vegan. What they did was interview the editor of “bee culture” magazine who procliams that bees are not exploited - they provide “safe, adequate housing” for the bees.

Regardless of how one feels about honey - I thought it was interesting that under the heading “Ethical Extraction” VT would just speak to a beekeeper. They are increasing their focus on vegan meals, which is nice, but they are also catering to their audience of “semi-vegetarians”, aka people who like to eat veggie one or two times a week.

182. vantine Says:

P&G?? They eat your soul - I have a number of friends who work there in Cincy.
One the upside, their HQ in downtown Cincy does resemble a most bodatious pair of bewbs.

183. Pamela Says:

Well the capitol building here looks like a cokandballz

I ate cookies. Chocolate chip.

185. Anonymous Says:

But you didn’t eat pandas. They are no vegan. What you NEED to make are panda shaped cookies. Chocolate chip.

186. bryophyte Says:

Right, thats me. I forgot I used firefox instead of IE.

187. HannahBanana Says:

Since ppk has been down I’ve had a chance to experiment in the kitchen. My goal was to create the best caramel apple pie. Recipe when we get back.

188. (farmtobelly) Says:

Pamela- clorox…seriously?! Those jerks. J&J takes my toms of maine and now clorox takes my face wash from me. This news is almost as bad as the forum being down.

189. bunniee Says:

I have been filling the void by cooking, napping, and online shopping. I ordered a Holga camera, a matt & nat purse, and jessicurl (hair stuff).

I am drinking hot tea with whiskey and lemon.

190. Pamela Says:

I thought it was Colgate-Pomolive that bought out Tom’s.

fucking SELLOUTS. all of them.

Better news- I got 1 1/2 scarves done today! I was at work for 9 hours. I also got Caio Bella coconut gelato. uh…AWESOME

191. smoothie Says:

i am going to look at other peoples wierd hobby junk today, and i am probably gonna spend waaaay too much money. wooohoo

192. smoothie Says:

ps. isn’t colgate-palmolive a part of the P&G concern? i know it is here.

193. StrawberryRock Says:

I am ready for the ppk to be back now! Please?!

194. rad.badger Says:

Hey Pamela. I want to knit/crochet sooo bad, but whenever the yarn stores have classes I can never go! Do you think learning to knit through books/ online videos, etc is a doable option? Should I pay $25 for a one hour, one-on-one at the yarn store to get the begining’s before trying to work out my way through books and such? What do you think?

195. rad.badger Says:

I wish I could edit: I also invite other knitters to help me with the decision, it’s just I know Pamela knits, and she even mentioned it in this ppk-less blog thread.

196. kennyboy Says:

I think I’m going to go to Harrah’s and gamble.

Life without the PPK is costing me a fortune…

197. StrawberryRock Says:

rad.badger, do you know anyone who knits? Because it would probably take them 10 minutes to show you the basics. I think videos could also work, though. Maybe try that and if you’re confused take a class.

198. Pamela Says:

Badger-

PM me when boards are back up.

199. bryophyte Says:

Kennyboy, you like to go to Harrah’s? I’ve never been there but seeing as I live in WNC, and you in TN, its probably the same Harrah’s…we should have a meetup! Harrah’s or otherwise anyway.

200. Tzippy Says:

rad.badger–I had a friend show me the basics of knitting, but now she’s moved away and I don’t know anyone else here who can answer my questions. I find Stitch ‘n Bitch to be very helpful, and when it doesn’t cover something or I need more details, I find a video online. Hasn’t failed me yet. I don’t know who all these people are who record themselves knitting, but G-d love ‘em.

201. smrty365 Says:

Uggghhh… I keep getting on here to want to tell you guys something and it’s still not working. Anyways, I’m very proud of myself, I planned a bottle drive yesterday for class council with about 30 kids and we made over $600 from 10 cent returns!

202. Pamela Says:

smrty-

that’s awesome!

203. NoWheyKatie Says:

Oh wow I finally found you guys. Sheesh. I knew you had to be all congregated SOMEWHERE. I don’t want to read all these comments. Can anyone sum it up for me?

Oh yeah! I met rad.badger yesterday!

204. raddish Says:

oooooooooawh

205. raddish Says:

haha ok that cut off half of my comment.

^that was a moan
i want the ppk back!
now!

206. rad.badger Says:

NoWheyKatie Says:
Oh yeah! I met rad.badger yesterday!

Oh jeez. I looked in the mirror some time around lunch, and I looked crazy. I had like, 3 hours of sleep and my shoes were wigging out and gave me blisters. I totally met a kinda cute boy there too, and then THATS when I checked the mirror and saw how nuts I looked. I like to think I usually look somewhat more approachable, so don’t be completely frightened off!

Either way, it was fun to meet you! Hopefully we’ll have a Chicago meet-up eventually.

207. vantine Says:

No Whey:
everyone wants to boards back. People have been slipping to various vices including drinking, gambling and baking. Rad.Badger wants to learn how to knit. Pamela and I had a brief conversation about unintentionally obscene buildings. Oh, Tom’s of Maine sold out.

I think that’s it.

208. cthutu Says:

last night i drank liqour after beer and im gonna blame it on the boards being down.

209. Mary (pickled treats) Says:

Me too!!!

I was dressed like a pirate, swishing red bull and jager in my mouth and doing the crypt walk to Madonna. All because the boards are down.

210. anencephalic Says:

So.
Tomorrow, right?

211. raspberrycomplaint Says:

I hope hope hope the boards are up tomorrow. (That’s a lot of hoping!)

I didn’t realize how dependent I had become. Every time I have a question about something, I want to run to the boards because I know someone will have an answer, but now I am left without answers. Oh, life is devoid of meaning now, a bottomless pit of despair….

212. Pranjal Says:

I’ve been hanging out with two cute ladies. One of them even has four legs.

213. farmtobelly Says:

I guess I never realized how much I check food porn until now that the board is down…and I’m slightly embarrassed by the frequency.

214. sonofseitan Says:

We just got back from S.F. one of my bands got to play with filmmaker, HG Lewis at Amoeba then at the Clay theater. This is my post about it.

215. Veg-in-Trainin Says:

I thought my work firewall just wouldn’t let me see the forums at work, then none at home! Ugh! At least I know I am not behind on cookie testing. Gotta look on the bright side.

We totally pigged out at Millennium last weekend. Lots of porn to share when the boards are back up. Totally missing porn!!

216. cthutu Says:

SEE I MISSED GETTING TO SEE A PPKER PLAY TUNES!

mary i was barfin to billy bragg. :)

217. smoothie Says:

i have a new-found love for raw ‘fu with sweet chili sauce. so freaking good.

218. B.A.D. Says:

Boards still aren’t up.
But there is the ppksupportgroup, thanks to eppy.

219. Mary (pickled treats) Says:

BAD, where the hell is the support group?

220. Jerusha Says:

my colleague brought in red-pepper-goulash with extra pepper-sauce in it… today I took it out of the dishwasher and it etched/corroded (??? looked that up) the frigging TUPPERWARE!!! it’s got all tiny blisters now like after a chemical reaction! Can red peppers do that kind of trick??

221. kennyboy Says:

Hey bryophyte!

Yeah, I go over to Harrah’s Cherokee all the time. We could definitely meet up over there sometime. I usually end up going on Sunday because I like to make a day out of it.

I normally like to stop in Asheville and have brunch at The Laughing Seed and then head on over to Harrahs. Heck, we could just meet up at The Laughing Seed or Rosetta’s for that matter…

We’ll have to plot and plan something in The Square when the boards are back up!

222. kennyboy Says:

I cannot wait until the boards are back up so I can rant and rave about my most favorite recipe of all times which I have discovered in VCON.

I have been searching high and low for the past couple of years for the perfect vegan recipe for a certain thing and have been unable to find a decent one. All of the ones that are out there are either too dry or contain ingredients that I don’t have on hand all the time.

Leave it to Isa & Terry to publish a recipe that uses normal ingredients and makes the most delicious version of this I have EVER tasted, vegan or not.

You don’t even understand how big this is to me.

I’ll expound more on the wonderfullness of this specific recipe as soon as the boards are back up.

Now I’m going to eat some more of this item, my own personal “holy grail” of vegan food.

Anyway, this one recipe is worth buying the whole book to me.

223. Orangeluna Says:

Kennyboy,

It was the pineapple quinoa stirfry, wasn’t it!

224. Sue in NJ Says:

I don’t know where eppy started one, but I just made one on Yahoogroups to hold us over:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/theppk/

225. kennyboy Says:

Nope.

:o)

226. Pamela Says:

patience isn’t my best virtue. It’s been 2 full days! Where are the boards?

ISA-

USPS said your thing was delivered. Did you receive it?

227. IsaChandra Says:

You guys, I have been on the phone with the hosting place all freaking day. I am probably going to cancel this account completely and start with someone else so it might be a little longer but at least I won’t be dealing with these swindling jerk faces anymore.

228. Ivlenya (aka Innochka) Says:

so desperate…
I drank up all my white cooking wine (and it was cheap and nasty and i never planned it for any thing more than cooking with)
Damn you - swindling jerk face server tech guys - daaaaaaaaamn you.

229. Pamela Says:

jesus, Ivlenya! Get some beer or vodka!

230. tidbit Says:

This is killing me!!……I’m tempted to actually make some real life friends…..or accomplish something at work…..what is the world coming to?!

231. anencephalic Says:
