Flaming Blackout Cake

Deidre Jean always makes me feel really lazy. Look at all the work she put into making this flaming groom’s cake, complete with fire engine to put out the vegan fire.

She’s actually got blueprints! Start here to see how it all came together.

    Hey Isa,
    Thanks for the shout out.
Honey, you make all of us the wild and crazy vegan bakers we are. You’re an inspiration! Did you ever see my 200 cupcakes I made for my sister’s wedding?

Oh please oh please oh please oh please. . .can you share the vegan cake recipe? I could try to make vegan cupcakes and just pour the batter into a cake pan, but not sure if it’ll work; every vegan cake I’ve tried either is too dry or not as ‘tall’ as I’d like (I like birthday cakes to be really tall and sort of majestic, if that makes sense).

This cake is gorgeous and the flames are the best!

    Hey FOM,
The recipe comes from Vegan with a Vengance (Isa & Terry’s first cookbook). If you don’t already own it, RUN to the bookstore to get one. And, I know what you’re saying about liking a tall cake. I quadrupled the recipe to get a cake this tall and majestic. It should feed about 50 peeps.

    Happy Cooking,
    Dee

FOM, the recipe is also on the internet somewhere. Try to google it! You can also do an Amazon “search inside” and find the recipe.

Naw, man. Buy the book! That rewards Isa for her efforts and allows her to experiment with new delicious creations!

LOL! I already have the book, honest! And, I’ve made the chocolate raspberry cake before (for my daughter’s 6th birthday) and it was very, very yummy, but it wasn’t ‘tall’—-knowing that you made it x4 definitely helps a lot. Thanks!
