The cupcake book is up for preorder on Amazon. It is so adorable. Cupcake sized and full color. It may be the classiest vegan publication in the history of the world. If you're into that sort of thing. And I'm quite sure that it's the first cookbook dedicated to Bea Arthur.

Look at these cute vinyl bracelets! Crafters for critters is awesome. From their FAQ:

“This is about simultaneously supporting handmade, independent businesses/crafters/designers/artists and rounding up money for animal rescue organizations. We use “crafters” as a sort of catch-all term for designers/artists/makers of things. We collect handmade/individually-created items and put them up for sale here. The proceeds are then donated to animal rescue groups.”

It's nothing really, he just says basically “I learned about Post Punk Kitchen - a punk rock cooking show on public access”. But how weird out of all the things on Wikipedia he found us. I love the internet today even though I hate the internet.

I must really be longing for Mother Russia. The beets, the blinis. Next there will be some sort of gelled tofu if I don't watch out.

PS If you've ever been to a Russian restaurant in Brooklyn you will know from the gel food of which I speak.

You're welcome for not making a beat/beet pun. In anticipation of fall I've been cooking with beets a lot. I didn't truly learn to appreciate this root until a few years ago and then I had to wonder what my problem had been before.

My two latest creations are beet cakes, sort of like potato pancakes but with beets, carrots and sweet potatoes.  And tonight I invented Gazborscht. It's either an earthy take on gazpacho or a piquant take on borscht. Feast your eyes.
